FOID and convicted felonies

Sir,

I found your name and address on the web. Was hoping you would answer a
couple questions.

I downloaded the application and it states no convicted felons.

My question is, In 1981 in the state of Alabama, I was offered to plead
guilty to an arson charge in lieu of court and was not ever in a court to be
convicted by a judge and/or jury. I have never had another incident with
any law enforcement agency since, does that mean I would not be able to
apply for a card?

Thank you for your time.

Good Morning,
A person who pleads guilty is usually entered as a conviction on his/her record. I don't know if you worked out some sort of supervision deal that may have kept it off your record, however. If there is a felony conviction, you would be ineligible for a FOID card. However, I am told by our FOID people that you can seek relief from the state where you were convicted. You should call the FOID office and speak with Greg Lueken at 217-782-3960. He specializes in this type of situation and may be able to shed some light on it for you.
