Hi-
I got a citation for tinted front windows, and I have a court date. What do I need to do to prove the tint is removed? Pictures are satisfactory? Is there a fine with this? The citation doesn't even state any information, it doesn't have a fine amount or any instructions. It just says go to court on this date. Thank your help.

Marty, 625 ILCS 5/12-503 prohibits window tint with some exceptions. This is considered a petty offense with a fine from $50 to $500. A second or subsequent offense is considered a Class C misdemeanor with a fine from $100 to $500. The section also says that any person convicted shall be ordered to remove the tint or change the windows to bring the vehicle into compliance. Since the fine can be set by the judge and due to the requirement to remove the tint, you may be require to appear in court.
As you note, you should prove that you have removed the tint in order to avoid another court appearance. While the Judge in the case may set a particular requirement, your idea is correct, either some photos, or if you had a vendor do the removal work, a receipt showing it was removed should suffice to satisfy the Judge. I have also seen some Judges dismiss the fine when the person ticketed is proactive in removal and may have been unaware he was in violation. Thanks for writing, hope that information is helpful.
