Speeding Offense Defense

I recently got my first speeding ticket in my life and I was wondering if I needed a lawyer to go to traffic court to get supervision or if I can appear Pro se.
Thanks
John

John,
It is certainly your right to hire an attorney to represent you. I can't offer legal advice, however for a simple speeding violation where you are seeking supervision, I have seen many people make arrangements with the Assistant States Attorney themselves. Usually when you go to traffic court, if you go early, the ASA will make an announcement beforehand prior to the Judges' arrival. Many people go up to the ASA and ask if they will agree to this. Then it will be prearranged when your name is called before the Judge. If the ASA says no, you can always ask the Judge, or tell them that you need a continuance to secure the services of an attorney. Hope that information is helpful.
Randy
